LATHOM PARK TRUST
What is the Lathom Park Trust?
The Lathom Park Trust is a group of people who have been bitten by the Lathom Bug and who devote much of their spare time researching the history of Lathom and doing all that is possible to protect its natural and man-made features for the benefit of this and future generations.
They are fascinated by the layers of historical interest embodied in the soil of Lathom and are keen to carefully unlock the secrets of its past But, they also recognise that it remains a working landscape, almost entirely in private ownership, and that they must work in close consultation with those owners;
The Trust was formed following a meeting of interested parties called in 1998 by West Lancashire District Council, who generously gave a grant to get the Trust up and running; It has gone from strength to strength since then and is now a limited company and a registered charity; It has organised many events, set up research projects, produced newsletters and helped to unite the community of Lathom;
The main geographical area of interest of the Trust is essentially the medieval Deer Park. but as the exact boundary of the medieval Deer Park is still the subject of research and debate, the area of interest can be said to be the boundary of the 18th century Lathom Park, as defined by the Park wall, plus an unspecified peripheral area; However, the Trust is also interested in subjects, which go beyond specific geographical boundaries, if they have a link with Lathom Park;
There are approximately 150 Members of the Trust who receive copies of newsletters and information on events. Many of the Members play an active part in the work of the Trust; helping to organise events and raise funds
